Hula’s Phoenix

From 1960s Strip Mall to a Modern Tiki Classic

In 2018, after 10 amazing years on Central Avenue, HULA’S surfed into an all-new location in uptown Phoenix. Led by partner Chris Delaney (who is the design soul of HULA’S) we stripped the old, dark space back to its mid-century modern bones, added a soaring central bar, the top embedded with tumbled sea glass, and built out a spacious indoor-outdoor dining patio replete with HULA’S signature fire pit. Plus, we added HULA’S first-ever private dining space (The Tiki Room) and a nautical-themed craft cocktail bar/lounge called The Captain’s Cabin.

Hula’s Scottsdale

An ‘Old’ School Challenge

Carved out of a former BBQ joint, the second location of HULA’S Modern Tiki brings some much-needed tropical vibes back to the heart of historic Old Town Scottsdale. Featuring a lively bar scene centered around our two 15-person communal tables, the light, airy space also boasts a seamless, indoor-outdoor layout thanks to a front wall of oversized glass sliders, leading to the street-side dining area. Swing by today to experience this retro throwback to Scottsdale’s swanky mid-century modern heyday.

Hula’s Central (2009 - 2018)

From 1965 Heap Big Beef to a Modern Tiki Classic

Originally built in 1965 as a roast beef sandwich competitor to Arby’s, HULA’S Modern Tiki restored the peaked, Tahitian-style roof and iconic hexagonal window looking out over Central Ave as part of the City of Phoenix’s adaptive reuse program. Led by HULA’S design guru and partner, Chris Delaney, architect Mark Tomecak (of Tomecak Design) and contractor Mahalo Company, we opened this modern, urban homage to the Americana tiki bars and restaurants of the ‘40s & ‘50s in September, 2009.
